Guess who’s got Whooping Cough

Got a call from the local GP the other night at home at around 8pm, not a usually thing. Apparently the last of my blood tests had come back and I had come back with a positive for Whooping Cough.

I was already on the right type of drugs to help treat this anyway, but it was good to know why I had been coughing for the past number of weeks. Also means that everyone else inf the house also has to go on antibiotics as well just in case. Both Karla and I were immunised when Sophie had her firsts shots at 2 months.

So I’m home and on drugs until the end of the week.

Problems with the site

You may have noticed that the site has been coming up and down or has been very slow over the past couple of days. Well I updated to Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTSĀ  over the weekend, this sort of went smoothly but I’ve found a few issues along the way.

1. Apache goes very slow or stops responding altogether.

2. APC no longer works with Apache.

3. Postfix-Dovecot SMTP authentication no longer works.

The first one is a big problem as it brings the whole server down, so nothing works and you are required to hard boot the box to get back in. It appears to be a problem with the update from PHP 5.2.6 to 5.3.1 there are issues with the Gallery plugin that I use on the site. So after some investigation I have disabled that plugin for now, until I can find a solution to fix the issue.

The APC should work but again does not want to so I have moved back over to Memcache for OPC caching on Apache for now.

The Postfix problem is a real pain, I spent many hours getting this set up in the past and while receiving emails is working I’ll need to go back and redo the other outward configuration again. Unfortunately as I spent some much time getting just right I can’t remember all of the little things that I changed, but looking at these things now I do so with a much better understanding than when I first tried.

The Gallery is still there and working, but linking pictures back via the WPG2 plugin is not working.

Hello from Pink Eye

My left eye was a little sore on Tuesday, but not to annoying, then by Wednesday night I was getting some blurred vision and with Karla telling me that I was going to the Doctors on Thursday morning to get it checked.

I really just thought I had some thing caught in it, but no I have to have conjuntivitis, yeah for me. So being contagious, I’ve been working from home for Thursday and today as well. Luckily no one else has caught it either.

We are still hoping to go to the Easter Show this weekend, but Karla still has her cough and Sophie has been a little congested as well. Jessie just powers along with nothing being able to stop her. I wonder if this is becuase she is never in the one spot long enough for bugs to get her.

If your on holidays hope you are having a great and safe time.

Easters been and gone and we want a do over

Well we’re all back at work now and the Easter break is over, it wasn’t really what we had in mind.

Sophie was sick from Thursday to pretty much Sunday, with being more herself on Sunday and Monday. She has decided now that she doesn’t like going to bed and wants to sit or stand in her bed crying out until someone comes and gets her. So we’ve had to just go back in at night and wrap her up and put her back down, doing this several times until she learns that she wont be brought out at night. Also with the change in Day Light Savings she has been waking up 5ish or earlier yah.

Karla also got quiet sick on Friday ~ Sunday, so she was out of action for most of the weekend, so no Birthday party, no Easter show on the Saturday or Sunday. I also got the bug on Saturday night / Sunday morning but luckily it didn’t last very long for me.

Miss Jessica was 100% ok during this time and hasn’t got sick, which is good, but meant she had all of her energy while everyone else was under the weather.

On Monday Jessie was invited over to the Stirling house hold for a play date with Sophie (Stirling) and the other girls from Daycare as Sophie (Sirling) is no longer there and missing her old friends. I stayed home with Sophie so we played in the lounge room and did stuff.

Then around 2pm I got a call from work as there were some problems, of course my laptop decided it no longer wanted to connect to work anymore and I would have to go in to the office to do anything. So Karla and Jessie had to come home and look after Sophie while I went in to work.

The end of a great weekend.

Hunt for serial ‘breast grabber’

GLENDA KWEK

March 23, 2010 – 12:25PM

Sydney women are being warned to beware of a suspected serial breast grabber.

Police believe the man has indecently assaulted three women in Sydney’s north-west in a fortnight.

The first woman was grabbed by the man on Birmingham Street, Merrylands, about 7.20pm on March 11, police said. She screamed and he ran away.

On March 21, another woman told police she was indecently assaulted at Railway Terrace, Guildford about 5.30pm. The man also ran away when she screamed.

A third woman was assaulted in Guildford Road, Guildford, about 1pm yesterday.

In all three incidents, the man asked the women for directions before grabbing their breasts, Inspector Adam Phillips of Merrylands police said.

The women described the assailant as a thin man of Indian appearance, aged between 25 to 28, of average height, with black, short, unkempt hair, a wispy black beard and a large nose.

Inspector Phillips said the man wore “a polo-style collared shirt with dark-coloured stone-washed pants”.

Police will try to analyse CCTV footage from Guildford railway station, which is near where two of the assaults occurred.

Police want other women who might have been assaulted or anyone with information to phone Merrylands police on 9897 4899 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
