Last day in my 30's

Today is the last day I can say that I am in my 30′s as tomorrow will be my 40th birthday. Yeah for me.

Karla is busily trying to sort out a bbq lunch birthday day party for this weekend down the road from our place. Looks like there will be quite a few people and heaps of kids. It should be a good day for all.

My Mum is also coming down tomorrow and Karla and Sophie will be going to the airport to collect her in the afternoon. She is staying until Sunday night when she goes back to Brisbane. This will be her first time in seeing Sophie and I’m sure Jessie will enjoy having another person to annoy as well.

Another weekend gone

Well it’s Sunday night and all o…

That’s as far as I got on Sunday night with this update before having to go outside and clean up the leaves from the front of the house.

Now it’s Monday and I am sitting in my new building at work looking out of the 26th floor across Sydney.

The weekend that was has now disappeared, what happened.

Saturday, Karla went to Veronica’s for a baby shower with Sophie and Jessie and I stayed home and played play dough and Jessie had a bath.

Saturday night I worked from 1.30am to around 7am Sunday morning.

Then we all went to Jessie’s swimming lesson, where Jessie had her lesson and then we had a swim afterwards.

After that we went to checkout a salad and chicken place for next weekend and bought some to take to the park for a picnic.

We did this after a a quick stop at home, when we had most of the lunch out on one of the tables we were attached by a one then two and finally 3 bees who decided that they liked our chicken and spot.

So we had to make a hasty retreat, at which stage Jessie decided she was no longer hungry and wanted to play on the swings. Which she did for a while and was having great fun.

We had warned her numerous times to be careful when walking near the swings but as always didn’t listen and we both watched as she was hit by an older girl on a swing and sent flying in the air to the ground.

She cryed but was luckily not hurt, by this time it was time for home as she was tired from the day out as was everyone else.

What was Sophie doing all of this time pretty much sleeping and the odd feed here and there, she was being good all day, which can’t be said for Jessie who seems to be trying to get any sort of attention bad or good.

Doesn’t make much sense to us as we both give her tons of attention and take her places for her to have fun, yet she seems happy to do what she can to be naughty.

Anyway must go and do some work.

Reason for Site being down over the past several hours

Well I’ve looking at making the move from MySQL 5.0 to 5.1.34 for a little while now and as you may or may not know there are quite a few big changes between the two, in how the DB’s are structured. So it’s not a move that you can just do and it should be tested.

So this wasn’t my first attempt at the change as last time I couldn’t get 5.1 to work at all with my 5.0 DB’s. This time I was able to get my DB’s migrated and working on the new version, which I had installed on another machine.

So I installed both 5.0 and 5.1 on my server using different ports and then migrated the DB’s over, including the one for this site as well. This work ok, but I noticed some overhead so tried running the upgrade tables etc. This caused me some issues so I uninstalled 5.1 or so I thought the installer actually uninstalled my 5.0 version instead.

This left me with no working MySQL installed and then when trying to get the 5.0 re-installed it just would install and work correctly. Eventually after some Googling I found my answer as there is sometime a bug in the installer which doesn’t pass the password details on.

So I am back to 5.0 for now, 5.1 is suppose to be faster and has many new great features but for now I’ll stay with the older version, which is still being used by most.

What's been happening

Well where can I start, it’s been such a long time since I made an update to the site.

We all know that Sophie is with us now, she is almost 7 weeks old now and is starting to smile and play with us along with lots of funny little sounds. She does have a skin rash, which has been on her face and over some of her body as well. But everyone we have spoken to has said that it should go away and it doesn’t seem to bother her.

She is sleeping pretty well during the nights any where from 5 to 6 hours at a time. (now that I have said that she will start waking up every hour now) She had put on around a kilo in the first 4 weeks as well as growing another 4cm in length, so Karla’s milk must be good stuff.

Jessie loves her sister to death, I want to touch her, I wont to hug her, Can I pat her, etc etc.. She is good with her and doesn’t seem to be jealous but we still have to watch her as she gets a little bit carried away.

Jessie was also bitten by a Cockatoo a few weekends ago on the finger and ended up in hospital for several days. Needing an operation on her finger to clean out the wound and then on a drip with antibiotics. I had the pleasure of staying with her during that time and poor Karla had to drive back and forth from the hospital with Sophie each day.

The nurses at Westmead Children’s Hopsital are great and did everything they could to make it easier on Jessie and us, while we were all there. I can’t recommend the canteen food at diner time, it’s just bad.

We managed to have two flat tyres on the car at once, which reminds me I still need to buy the wheel nut extension before we have another one.

I’m back at work and Karla and the girls are now at home together, this being the second day for them all, as Jessie is still going to daycare on Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays.

I’ll try and get some new pictures up of Sophie as she has grown quite a lot in the past few weeks, I guess there is no surprise in that as this is all she has to do now.

We’ll must go and do some work.
