Andrew and Karla's Place

Find out what has been happening with us

Day 2 and 3 of the Holiday

We’ll day 2 has been and gone, the weather was a little better, we had only a little rain while driving from Coffs to Byron, we stopped at the Big Prawn, but decided not to eat there as the fish and chip place had water and flies buzzing around the food.
Jessie did get a nice purple handbag and a star wand for being a good girl in the car. Purple is her favourite colour at the moment.

My new phone a Samsung i560 also has GPS and one of the feature is a search function of the local area for different types of businesses, so I did a search and we found that there was a McDonald, a kilometre down the road, so we ended up going there.

When we arrived, we couldn’t get in the door as it was full of teenagers from a coach that had just pulled in. Jessie and I went and found a booth and Karla stayed with our order, which was taken by a roving order taker. Jessie was tired and not really wanting to cooperate by this stage, but food was consumed and she got to play in the playground for awhile.

Also took the chance to give Darren and Carmel a quick call, Carmel was at home and both I and Karla had a chat.

The drive from there to Byron didn’t take too long and Betty (the name given to the voice of the GPS) guided us to the resort we are staying at now for a few days. It of course started to rain heavily on our arrival so again it was a case of run from the car to where we had our room.

The Byron at Byron resort is very nice and both Karla and Jessie enjoyed the huge free standing bath.

I like the large plazma in the lounge room but so does Jessie, the Wiggles looks very good to her on this.

Today being Day 3 we have been down for breakfast which is the usual fair, for these sort of places, so it was good. Just as we had finished our breakfast, I had thought they had closed the kitchen, but the resort had actually lost power. This didn’t worry us too much as we had planned to go in to Byron and have a look around.

Byron was nice as the weather today is a nice 25c and nothing but blue sky. We walked around and bought a few things and had some lunch at a Japanesse type place.

We’re back at the resort now and Jessica is suppose to be sleeping but we can both hear her talking and singing in her cot right now.

The plan is to go for a swim after her sleep, then maybe back to Byron to have a play and grab something for diner.

Have to go now…

The trip to The Waterside Cabins

Day one of our holiday, after leaving Sydney and driving in to a horizon of almost black, we ended up hitting some major rain on the highway.

Jessie slept for a few hours for the first part of our trip and when we decided to stop and have a break, we had to drive for another hour or more.

While stopping for lunch which consited of some really good hambergers Jessie managed to spill her apple juice all over herself. On leaving our lunch stop Jessie got to use her new DVD player and watched the Wiggles for an hour or so.

I’ll update with some more later

One day to go before the big drive

We’ll today is the day for packing washing the last few items and getting ready to drive up to Queensland, we have a few stops along the way, which should be nice.

Jessie is at daycare while we get the last of the packing done and things ready. Karla has her graduation tonight in the city so we are also getting ready for that as well.

Some not so good news from Brisbane

Well you know that we are planing a holidays as generally our chosen destination will suffer from one of the following.

1. Some sort of natural disaster.
2. A coupe.
3. Terrorist attacks.

We’ll we are heading up to Brisbane and currently Queensland is in the grip of storms and flooding, so nothing new there. Our last trip to Queensland had it raining everyday except for one and this was in the middle of a drought.

Also got an email from Mum the other day advising that she has broken her arm in three places last week. The week before that she had to put down the dog as it had a tick and was not likely to recover.

We’ll just have to see how the weather is once we get up there, I guess.

I don't want this job.

This is definitely one job I have no desire in the world to have.

i-dont-wont-this-job

I want one of these!!

Saw this interesting article about small sized reactors that will be available in the next 5 years or so.

I don’t think Karla will really let me have one though.

New Hyperion NuClear reactor

New Hyperion NuClear reactor

Hyperion, Toshiba, others, race to produce “personal” nuclear power.

Using technology licensed from the U.S. government, an Arizona-based company is planning to bring a new generation of miniature nuclear reactors to market. The Hyperion Hydride Reactor is not much larger than a hot tub, is totally sealed and self-operating, has no moving parts and, beyond refueling, requires no maintenance of any sort. The reactor will output 27MW, enough to power a community of 20,000 homes, says Hyperion Energy, makers of the new reactor. The first models will roll off the assembly line in five years.
